Will Ferrell: You're Welcome America - A Final Night with George W. Bush (2008)

If there is anyone in America who has not seen Will Ferrell's impression of George Bush, you have got to see this special. In You're Welcome America, Ferrell plays his classic caricature for an hour and a half, roasting the former President based on both real and fictitious information. I feel obligated to say that if you are an avid supporter of Bush, or do not like the idea of someone severely mocking any president, you should avoid this special. If that does not sound like something that would be a problem for you, I suggest you watch You're Welcome America. Will Ferrell's impression is not actually all that spot on, it is just so funny that you cannot help but laugh, even when he makes the just slightest facial expression. At certain points, Ferrell brings up real quotes and decisions the President made, and does a really good job of making him look stupid. At other points, he clearly fabricates information that also makes the ex-President seem really stupid. My favorite moment in the special is when Ferrell pretends to be the elder Bush, yelling at his son. I challenge anyone to watch it without cracking up. There is another hilarious series where Ferrell interacts with the audience, giving a lot of them nicknames like Bush did with the press corps. Again, it baffles me how fast Ferrell is on his feet and how hilarious can be. The special does drag a little; it is pretty much the same thing over and over again for 90 minutes. I made the wise decision of watching it in three sittings, which I believed really helped to keep it from becoming repetitive. There is a lot of foul language and offensive content, but if that does not bother you, I imagine you will enjoy your time with Ferrell. My wife actually did not think the special was all that funny, and only watched about the first 30 minutes, but I really liked it. I give Will Ferrell: You're Welcome America - A Final Night with George W. Bush 3 stars.
