Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008)
This is one really funny movie; it definitely pushes the line between comedy and vulgarity, but if that is not a problem for you, you will love this film. In Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Jason Segel finds that his relationship with a television star has ended, and subsequently finds himself taking a vacation to get away from it all at the same location as his ex and her rock star boyfriend. Segel, who you may recognize from Knocked Up, is absolutely hilarious is this film, and is quite often nude. He sets the tone with his perfect sarcastic timing, and leads a great cast to an excellent performance. Sarah Marshall is played by Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars, Heroes), and she is all but flawless in this role. Mila Kunis steps outside of her That '70's Show, Family Guy personas and is actually quite charming. Paul Rudd even has a siginificant role. It is too small for me, I cannot get me enough Rudd, but he is really funny. To me, the two people who unexpectedly steal this film are Bill Hader and Russel Brand. Hader, a Superbad alum and current SNL cast member, is one of the funniest new faces in the business and kills in every moment he is on the screen. Brand, more real-life comedian than actor, plays the boyfriend, and is so charming that it is even impossible for Segel to dislike him. Forgetting Sarah Marshall is funny from start to finish. The rock-opera that Segel performs for the first time on a Hawaiian stage is one of the funniest scenes I have ever scene. My wife watched the movie with me and loved it; lucky for me, I do not think I could love someone who did not think this movie was funny (although I'm sure my mom would hate it). I look forward to the next time that I will see this movie, and to the next time I see a Jason Segel film. I give Forgetting Sarah Marshall 3 and a half stars.
