Oak Street Cafe
Located on hip and trendy Oak Street in the riverbend neighborhood off of Carrollton, Oak Street Cafe is a delightful place to enjoy a yummy breakfast. When you walk into this charming restaurant, you feel like you have stepped back in time when you are greeted with the sounds of a live pianist and vocalist playing some classic upbeat tunes. What a way to start your day! The breakfast options are just what you would expect from this classic establishment. Egg plates, pancakes and grits are some of the highlights, including a great eggs Benedict at a very reasonable price. My favorite is the bagel sandwich with eggs, bacon and cheese. The eggs and bacon are perfectly cooked, and the toasted bagel is perfect. My husband usually orders the biscuits and gravy, which he says are the best he has had in town. The cafe also offers homemade donuts, muffins and other breakfast pastries, which are all top drawer. Additional daily specials offer a variety of great breakfast at a great price. The cafe is also open for lunch. The lunch menu is mostly sandwiches with a few salad options, and the ones we have tried were all good, although the reason to come to Oak Street is definitely for the breakfast. The workers at Oak Street Cafe are extremely friendly and always very helpful. While there is no set children's menu, there are options for even the youngest diner, and the staff is always happy to see my daughter. Like most restaurants of its size in this city, Oak Street is a cash only establishment, so come prepared. While the food at this restaurant is really good, the experience of eating there is what keeps me coming back on a regular basis. I give Oak Street Cafe 3 stars.
