Camillia Grill

Camillia Grill, located in the Carrollton area of New Orleans, is a classic American diner. This small little restaurant is a favorite of locals, and there is often a large line waiting outside just to get in. When you walk through the doors, you feel as if you have stepped back in time. A server is there helping to seat people at the 29 stools bolted down in front of a snake-like bar. Behind the counter there are a handful of men working quickly to take orders and cook up some greasy, delicious food. Almost all of the food is cooked on one of two large grills that are located directly behind the seating area. Part of the fun of this restaurant is interacting with the workers while they serve up their yummy fare. The menu has everything you would expect from an early morning to late night diner. Oversized omelets and waffles are highlights of the breakfast menu. Lunch and dinner items include burgers and a variety of sandwiches. I almost always get a cheeseburger when I go to Camillia, they are juicy, thick and delicious. A side of fries or onion rings go great with their burgers and sandwiches. Camillia Grill is also known for Chocolate Freezes and other milkshake-style drinks, the perfect companion to a greasy burger and fries! The style of the restaurant makes it slightly difficult to bring a smaller child. They do have 2 highchairs, but since the stools are bolted to the ground, it is problematic trying to squeeze in a high chair. However, if your child is old enough to sit on the stool, this is a very family friendly restaurant. There is no kids menu but there are plenty of options that a child could enjoy. My daughter loves their grilled cheese. The prices are what you would expect from a diner in New Orleans, and the quality of the food makes it totally worth it. Our family of three can eat for about $20. Best of all they take credit cards, which many establishments of their nature do not. Camillia Grill offers great food in a unique environment. The atmosphere is perhaps one of its greatest strengths and its greatest weaknesses at the same time. The small amount of seating and original layout can cause problems for families with small children and can make for a long wait, but changing things would ruin the restaurant. I give Camillia Grill 3 stars.
