Bistro Daisy
Located in a quaint yellow shotgun house on Magazine Street, Bistro Daisy offers everything I look for in a fine dining restaurant: great atmosphere, great food, great service. My husband and I had made reservations for a late Valentine's dinner but had to cancel last minute due to babysitter issues. When we called to inform them we would not be able to make it (literally 5 minutes before our reservation), the hostess was understanding and extremely finished. We scheduled another reservation for a week later, and it was worth the wait. From the second you step in the door, you feel that you are about to enjoy a lovely dining experience. The decor is simple and elegant; original moldings and fireplaces make you feel at home, well appointed tables make it seem like you are at an elegant restaurant with wonderful balance. Our waitress was friendly, gave nice suggestions and very attentive without being in our faces, which is just what you want when you are out for a romantic evening. My husband and I shared the grilled sweetbreads over red onions, capers and pine nuts. The portion was adequate to share and the taste was wonderful. All the elements worked perfectly together and everything highlighted the wonderfully grilled sweetbreads. My husband ordered the lamb with parmesan risotto in a tomato sauce. The lamb was perfectly cooked and extremely tender, and the risotto was spot on and complemented the meat well. I ordered the crawfish and mascarpone ravioli with leeks in a tomato cream sauce. I found the entree to be delightful. The cheese and crawfish worked amazingly together, and the portion was perfect. The plate had three delicate jumbo ravioli, so the crawfish and cheese where not overwhelmed by the pasta. The tomato cream was perfect, not to too heavy, but significant enough to add a wonderful flavor. For dessert, my husband and I shared miniature beignets with coffee flavored ice cream, a great ending to a wonderful meal. Bistro Daisy offers a full bar and the menu changes seasonally, so you know you are always eating something fresh. Our meal was not cheap, but the quality of the food made it worth every penny. There was no aspect of our meal that was in any way disappointing. I give Bistro Daisy 4 and a half stars.
