Cafe Fleur-de-lis
Located just blocks away from Jackson Square on Charters, Cafe Fleur-de-lis offers an inexpensive breakfast and lunch menu on one of the city's most historic streets. My husband and I recently went for a mid-day brunch and were pleased with the multitude of appetizing options. Alongside several unique omelet creations, you can also order the standard breakfast fare such as pancakes and egg platters. My husband got the three eggs plate with a side of bacon, toast and grits. He enjoyed the bacon and the toast quite a bit, and my daughter seemed to thoroughly enjoy the majority of his eggs. My husband is not a grits fan, but I thought they were well buttered and very creamy. I order a breakfast sandwich: eggs, cheese and bacon on a bagel. While the inside was very good, the bagel was not toasted, causing the sandwich to fall just a little flat. While we have not eaten lunch at Cafe Fleur-de-lis, the menu is diverse and filled with multiple tasty sounding options. The service was friendly, but it was not what I would call quick. We were there on a busy day during Mardi Gras, so it may not have been indicative, but for what we ordered, the wait was significant. In terms of cost, the prices were very fair, about as low as you can expect when eating in the Quarter, although the drinks were overpriced. The restaurant is small, so is not ideal for a large group with kids, but there is one high chair and multiple menu options appropriate for a child. I liked this restaurant enough that if we ever need a quick meal in the Quarter again, I would consider going back. That said, there are a lot of places we want to try, and we were not blown away, so today might end up being our only Cafe Fleur-de-lis experience. I give Cafe Fleur-de-lis 2 and a half stars.
