Dick & Jenny's New Orleans
We had heard nothing but rave reviews of Dick and Jenny's, so it was with great expectations that we entered the yellow New Orleans-style house turned restaurant. We were not disappointed! Dick and Jenny's is the perfect blend of sophisticated food and laid back cajun atmosphere. The staff was extremely friendly, the decor classy yet not stuffy, the food beautifully executed; all traits we have come to love from eating establishments in this town. The menu is full of tempting choices, a great sounding fillet mignon and several seafood options. There were multiple starters to choose from as well as desserts. The restaurant also features a full bar and a decent wine list. My husband and I shared the veal sweetbread appetizer served on a homemade biscuit, topped with a fried quail egg and gravy. The appetizer was plenty of food to be shared by two, and the veal was full of flavor. My husband loved the biscuit and gravy, and the subtle quail egg was the perfect topping. My husband ordered the roasted duck served with rice, andouille sausage and southern greens. While the duck was not the best duck he has ever tasted, it was tender and well cooked, 'the second best duck' he has ever had, according to him. The rice and sausage along with the sauce complimented the duck and made the meal overall one of the best he has had. I ordered the Dick and Jenny's Grits and Grillades. The grits were cooked perfectly, extremely creamy and well seasoned. The Grillades in this dish were pork served with a thick gravy; the pork was so tender it practically melted in my mouth. The gravy was very hearty, not spicy but full of bold flavors. The price of Dick and Jenny's is definitly fair, it ranges on the more expenisive side, but they do offer a few more affordable dishes. While I would not necessarly classify Dick and Jenny's as baby friendly, we did not feel uncomfortable bringing our baby girl. While they do have a short childerne's menu, our daughter ate off of our plates,; she loved the duck! The staff was incredibly friendly in general, and especially towards the baby. We dined early, which I think is why we felt comfortable having our daughter with us; I would not suggest bringing a child much later than 7. Overall I feel that this restaurant cannot be missed if you like New Orleans syle cuisine. We give Dick and Jenny's New Orleans.4 stars.
