Taqueria Corona

Taqueria Coronoa is a small neighborhood restaurant in the heart of Uptown serving up fresh, authentic Mexican food. Decorated in bright fiesta inspired pinatas and a hint of other gimmicky Mexican adornments, Taqueria is a fun place to enjoy great margaritas and no fuss Mexican food. The menu includes all of your standard Mexican fare: tacos, burritos, flautas and more. The restaurant also has a great queso and a good dessert menu. You can order in an a la cart fashion or choose from one the many combination platters. The combos come with rice and beans on the side, as well as very interesting salad; more than enough food to share with a date. My favorite menu option is their flautas, one of the best I have ever had, and I grew up on Tex-Mex in Texas. My husband enjoys their tacos, both hard and soft. It is truly their fresh ingredients and well seasoned meat that make Taqueria the best Mexican food I have had in the city. While the food is great, Taqueria has one major set back. The restaurant is very small and at dinner time, waits can be long. The waiting area is all but non-existent, so patrons regularly spill out onto Magazine St. The prices are at bit high for what one might expect from a small Mexican restaurant. Taqueria is definitely family friendly. The laid back atmosphere lends itself to loud children and their menu features many kid friendly options. Plenty of high chairs and an amiable staff complete the "kids welcome" image. This restaurant is a great place to enjoy Mexican cuisine in a city known for French and Cajun/Creole food. I think it is also noteworthy that the last time we ate here, we saw the eldest Manning brother, so it also a decent place to see local almost-celebrities. I give Taqueria Corono 3 stars.
