Crescent City Steaks
Located in Mid-City on busy Broad Street in a nondescript building, Crescent City Steaks is a restaurant that will truly surprise you. The outside of the building gives no indication of the traditional old world steak house you will find upon entering the doors. Heavy dark wood tables, richly colored linens and a classic bar reveal the restaurant's 70-plus years of history. Crescent City was opened with the idea "provide the best steak in town by keeping the menu simple." This holds true today. While there is a plate the combines steak with lobster, and a shrimp cocktail appetizer, the menu glorifies beef. The steaks are cooked with a gas broiler which gives them a unique taste, and are ordered a la carte. The menu offers several tasty side options which go great with whichever cut you decide upon. Sides include potatoes served several ways and several vegetable options, as well as two appetizing salads. There is also a short dessert menu, although by the end of our meal, we were far too full. My husband ordered a 14 oz. Rib Eye and felt that it was perfectly cooked, seared on the outside and juicy on the inside. I ordered the 10 oz. Fillet. I thought that there would be no way I would ever finish such a large piece of meat (I am used to 6 oz.). The meat was so tender and yummy, I was not able to stop myself. We shared the side of potatoes au gratin, and all I can say about the potatoes is that they were delicious! The restaurant has a fully stocked bar and a large wine list. There is not kids menu and although we did take our daughter and there were several other children in the restaurant at the time, I would suggest leaving the kids at home. The service was friendly and quick. The restaurant was on the smaller side and tables were a bit squeezed in. One special feature is that there are a series of booths on one side of the restaurant that have privacy curtains. It felt as if the God Father were in there making a deal! Crescent City Steaks is not cheap, but the quality and size of the steaks justifies the price tag. My husband and I really enjoyed our dinner and will definitely go back when we are craving a good steak. I give Crescent City Steaks 4 stars.
