St. James Cheese Company

St. James Cheese Company is a delightful place to enjoy a unique lunch in a city which is best known for the po'boy. St. James offers truly original sandwiches and salads that will please even the most discerning cheese lover. As its name implies, St. James is all about the cheese. Cheese is the leading star on each plate, and the establishment is a great place to buy specialty cheeses and all things cheese related. The lunch menu includes creative sandwiches such as the Mozzarella with salami on a grilled ciabatta and a wonderful pesto, and the Brie with ham on a buttered baguette. A great salad featuring cheese, of course, and other fresh ingredients is another highlight of the menu. For the true cheese lover, St. James also offers cheese boards where they will help you choose three, five or seven cheeses from their extensive collection all served with appropriate accompaniments based on the cheeses you choose. Whatever you end up getting, you will not be disappointed because St. James uses high quality fresh ingredients. It is clear that the staff is passionate about cheese and take pride in giving each customer the best. Along with the vast cheese selection, St. James offers a variety of specialty meats, pates, olives, butters, jams, crackers, compotes and pastas. There is also a decent selection of cutlery, cutting boards, cheese graters and picnic baskets. Another nice feature of St. James is that, from time to time, they have special themed dinners where they bring in special guest chefs. The prices at St. James are reasonable and the portions are generous. They do have a children's grilled cheese (the mini moo) served on whole wheat bread with a side of fruit and chips which is great for our family. Service is not the quickest, but is consistent, and the food never disappoints; just writing about it now makes me want to go back. I give St. James Cheese Company 3 and a half stars.
