Crabby Jack's Restaurant

Crabby Jack's is my new favorite place to get lunch in New Orleans! This small seafood store turned restaurant epitomizes NOLA lunch cuisine. Sitting in a warehouse-style building decorated with funky New Orleans painted signs, you will enjoy the best poboys in town. The menu at Crabby's is one of the most extensive that I have seen in the city. Poboys include everything from the standard fried shrimp to a slow roasted duck. The restaurant also offers a variety of platters with a side and salad. Sides are typical of New Orleans: mac-n-cheese, jambalaya, etc. Also, a highlight of the menu is their build-your-own salad board. Portions are unbelievably large, you will be enjoying the food for days! I had a shrimp poboy, loaded with some of the largest shrimp I have ever seen, and my husband tried a fried calamari poboy. The quality of the calamari equaled that served on fine establishments dinner menu and at half the cost. Crabby's prices are comparable to other local lunch menus, but the quality of the food is far superior. While I can't say enough about the food, there are a few areas in which Crabby's falls short. For one the restaurant cannot be classified as kid friendly; they lack a children's menu and high chairs. Everyone was friendly and polite to us, but the picnic table style set-up is not great for a mobile child. We ordered a side of mac-n-cheese for our daughter; she loved it so there are some options off the standard menu that kids can enjoy. The place is definitely a dive, but is the type of place that makes a city unique; it is actually owned by the same people that run Jaques-Imo's, so if you are familiar with them, you should be able to understand exactly what to expect from Crabby's. Overall, this restaurant is a must visit if you are looking for a place that serves up high quality cajun lunches with no fuss or frills. We give Crabby Jack's 3 and a half stars.
