Cannon's Restaurants
Situated along the St. Charles Ave. street car line, Cannon's is a reliable restaurant that is stuck somewhere between fine dining and a classic New Orleans hole-in-the-wall. We have eaten at this establishment multiple times and have always found the food to be good, but not spectacular. One plus for Cannon's is that they offer plenty of banquet room space and ample seating to accommodate large parties, something that is a unique quality in this town. Furthermore, they offer a diverse menu that has something to satisfy everyone's taste. Traditional New Orleans seafood fits well into a menu that offers a variety of sandwiches, salads, steaks and pastas. Highlights for us have been the Crabcakes Salvatore, which features two crabcakes over linguine with a crawfish sauce, and the seafood platters, which offer a spectrum of fried options. With an ample list of starters, sides, desserts and a kid's menu, few diners will be unable to find something that they can enjoy. A fully stocked bar with a nice wine selection rounds out this 'safety-school' restaurant. Cannon's has the appearance and atmosphere of a fine dining experience, and prices that are reflective of such, but in reality, the clientele is usually dressed in business casual, and the food is usually made to match. A kids menu, friendly staff and high chair make this restaurant an easy choice for parents. I feel that the most accurate way that I can describe this restaurant is that it is the Chili's of Uptown. My husband and I enjoyed this restaurant, and will almost certainly go back, but there is a significant possibility that it is slightly overpriced, and is trying to be more than it is. I give Cannon's Restaurants 3 stars.
