Reno 911!: Miami (2007)

If you're like my wife and you hate this show, Reno 911!: Miami may not be the movie for you; however, if you like the show on Comedy Central, you will love this film. The humor is pure slapstick, verging on being stupid, but for me, it does not cross that line. The vulgar jokes and ridiculous antics are hilarious, and while this is not the funniest movie that I have ever seen, it does deliver laughs from the get-go. Reno 911! is reminiscent of the first and best Police Academy movie, which is really highly underrated, due to the craptacular-ness of the following five. In this movie, the Reno sheriff's department travels to Miami for a conference and is able to overcome their own ineptitude and eventually save the day. The plot and storyline were predictably see-through, but no one who is intentionally watching this movie is too concerned with the plot. Dwayne Johnson has a small but hysterical role in this movie, as does Paul Rudd, who is almost always the funniest person on the screen. The ensemble cast of this movie plays their roles perfectly, and the direction of this film is pretty good, although I doubt it took much since the show has done most of the leg work. I am not 100% familiar with the show, but I believe an additional character was added to the cast, a pseudo-lesbian who actually fits in with rest of the group quite well. The production value, I would say, was around a B+, although I get the impression that might have been intentional, as it enhances the ridiculousness of this film. Given the opportunity, I would probably not want to watch this movie again, but I am glad to I have seen it. As I mentioned, my wife hates the show, so did not consider watching the film, but I still enjoyed it. I give Reno 911!: Miami 2 stars.
