Figaro's Pizzerie

We had tried to eat at Figaro's Pizzerie several times, only to find it still not returned from Katrina; finally when we called, they were reopened, and it seems better than ever. Reviews we had seen were not all that positive, but my husband and I found it quite the opposite. The menu is a nice mix of specialty pizzas and Italian entrees with a New Orleans twist. There is a small section of appetizers including a Spinach and Artichoke brochette, and a choice of soup or salad is included in the price of all of the entrees (not pizzas). My husband ordered a penne pasta with chicken and mushrooms. While the chicken was not all that flavorful, the sherry wine sauce was outstanding, and the dish also had broccoli and mushrooms, which are some of his favorites; overall he was very please with his dish. He chose the oyster and artichoke soup to start with, and it was incredibly delicious and very creamy with just the right touch of spice. I ordered the white pizza. This four cheese pie with a garlic sauce on a crispy crust was wonderfully prepared, perhaps the best white pizza I have had in New Orleans. While the service was a bit slow, everyone was very friendly. The restaurant was clean and very quaint with an enchanting outdoor seating area. The drink selection is sub-par, and my husband and I were a bit shocked when our bottle of house wine cost more than both of our meals combined. There is not wine list to speak of, just "house wines" spouted out by the waitress without prices, and beers are nowhere to be found. There is not a children's menu at Figaro's, but our daughter enjoyed sharing both of our meals, and they did have a high chair, which is a plus. Overall our trip to this quaint Italian eatery was very pleasant. I give Figaro's Pizzerie 3 stars.
