If you are interested in feeling awkward about having reproduced, eat at The Rivershack Tavern. We always assumed that the tavern was just that, a bar, not a place to go to dinner with our 1 year old daughter. After seeing the Tavern featured on Food Network, we decided to give it a try. We were intrigued by the interesting and delicious sounding specials highlight on TV but were disappointed when we realized that the Tavern is much more of a lunch restaurant than a dinner place. All of the day's specials were sold out and were replaced by a multitude of bar-goers. While they did have a highchair, that is the end of their child-friendliness. The menu is typical of any bar. A good variety of appetizers, mostly fried; the entrees are primarily sandwiches with a good selection of salads and seafood. It is clear that the truly innovative food is available as a daily special, so if you are seeking these, try the Tavern for lunch and not dinner. The food was reasonably priced and service was friendly. I enjoyed the Usual Suspects sandwich, a combination of corned beef, pastrami, roast beef and Swiss cheese on rye bread; it was tasty and very generous in its portions. My husband had Rusty's Ranch Chicken, a fried chicken sandwich. While he enjoyed his dinner, he mentioned that he did not taste any ranch and as the name implies, the menu stated that the sandwich would have ranch dressing. The restaurant boasts a large beer selection and the standard non-alcoholic choices, as well as good happy hour specials. Rivershack Tavern is exactly what its name implies, a local tavern that offers a large menu of tasty bar meals. Think the bar in the movie Road House, it's pretty similar. I give the Rivershack Tavern 1 and a half stars.
