The Other Boleyn Girl (2008)
If your interested in British royal history, this is the film for you; if your interested in 'fancy costumes', The Other Boleyn Girl is also something you should see. This movie was achingly slow for the first hour. The only thing that was interesting was what I imagine was unintentional sexual tension between Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johanssen. There are a number of pointless love scenes, and a lot of never ending furtive looks. I found all three of the stars of this movie did an excellent job, I just feel that the script was slightly lacking. According to my wife's mother, the movie was not accurate to the Philipa Gregory book, which she was happy to point out numerous times, so be sure not to watch it with her. The end of the movie did pick up. It made me quite glad that my daughter does not live in such ridiculous times. The movie is ok, the best part is probably the costumes, which I know, makes me sound extremely heterosexual, but hey, we play the hand we're dealt. My wife liked this movie, and I imagine anyone that likes Philipa Gregory or Jane Plaidy books would as well. I question the historical accuracy of this movie, but I doubt the point of the film was to give a lesson in British royal history. I give The Other Boleyn Girl 2 and a half stars.
